VERMILION
A dark, folkloric anthology series, grounded in a reality where would-be history meets elements of the supernatural - written along the lines of THE TERROR, CASTLE ROCK, and TRUE DETECTIVE
LOGLINE: A terminally ill man fears the wrath of a cursed town as he confesses a long-held secret about a historic discovery that brought tragedy to everyone involved.
SUMMARY: Throughout its history, the small mountain town of ACHERON’S PASS has been plagued with one hardship after another. Murder marred its humble beginnings. Disease, death, and vengeful acts of God would peg the town as cursed, driving prosperity away. Its most enduring legend would be the mysterious disappearance of an entire brigade during a battle fought in the waning days of the Civil War. Nearly a century later, in 1960, the town was on its last legs, with businesses closing and people leaving in droves. A young, idealistic mayor, HENRY BIRCH, aimed to change all that, securing a highway project to bring people back to Acheron’s Pass. But a discovery of historic proportions during construction altered the town's fortunes and everyone in it. Told as a present-day recollection, a sort of “deathbed confession,” of past events. Henry Birch, now in his 90s, has lost everyone that ever mattered in his life, believing the town itself is a malevolent force, dispensing misery to anyone who resides on its cursed soil. Facing his own mortality and harboring long-kept secrets, Henry wants to clear his conscience and reveal what really happened, even if the truth and the town are out to get him.
