LOGLINE: After a near-fatal shooting, a third-generation sheriff, who never took his job seriously before, must piece his shattered confidence back together and learn how to be a real cop in order to hunt down a mysterious figure terrorizing a small farming community with a series of toxic gas attacks.
SUMMARY: SHERIFF TRIPP ELLIS is something of a legacy. His father and grandfather both served in the same position as county sheriff in the smallest county seat in Illinois for the last 50+ years. And while his family might stake a claim on the law, being a cop isn’t really in Tripp’s blood. That changes on a fateful day during a routine traffic stop. Because of Tripp’s lax attitude and failure to following proper procedure, he’s shot and nearly killed by two runaway criminals trying to make it to Chicago. Surviving the incident isn’t easy for Tripp. The road to recovery is full of physical and mental hurdles he’s forced to struggles through. But returning to work, Tripp makes a solemn promise to be a better sheriff. His vow is quickly tested as prominent citizens start turning up dead, mysteriously gassed to death in their own homes by an enigmatic assailant know as NIGHTSHADE. Bordering on supernatural, Nightshade is a vicious killer, employing deadly, organic poisons to asphyx his victims. Now Tripp must overcome the demons of his near-death experience and learn to work a major case with critical hurdles if he wants to stop Nightshade’s reign of terror.
